2019 (Columbus): David Guzman has made 14 regular-season appearances (11 starts as a central midfielder) for Crew SC in 2019. He made his 2019 regular-season and Crew SC debut in a home match against the LA Galaxy (May 8) coming in as a substitute in the 47th minute for Federico Higuain. He registered his first 2019 regular-season start for the Black & Gold in a home contest against Los Angeles FC (May 11). Guzman started in five consecutive regular season matches, from May 11 (LAFC) to June 29 (Orlando City SC). He returned to the starting lineup against Real Salt Lake (July 3) and recorded three consecutive starts for the Black & Gold. Guzman made a substitute appearance during a road contest against New York Red Bulls (July 27), coming into the match for Wil Trapp. He returned to the starting lineup during a road contest at New York City FC (August 21). Guzman made a substitute appearance in a home match against the Chicago Fire (August 31), coming in for Luis Argudo. He returned to the starting XI for Crew SC during a road contest against Atlanta United (September 14), playing the entire 90 minutes. 2019 (Portland): David Guzman made five regular-season appearances (four starts) in 2019. He made his 2019 regualr-season debut in a road contest against the Colorado Rapids (March 2). He recorded his second consecutive start in road contest against Los Angeles FC (March 10). He made a substitute appearance during a road contest against FC Cincinnati (March 17). Guzman returned to the starting lineup and recorded his first assist of the 2019 regular-season during a road contest against the LA Galaxy (March 31). He started a road contest against the San Jose Earthquakes (April 6).
2018 (Portland): David Guzman made 14 regular-season appearances (11 starts) in 2019. He made his 2019 regular-season debut in a road contest against the LA Galaxy (March 4) playing all 90 minutes. He recorded his second consecutive start in a road contest against the New York Red Bulls (March 10). Guzman recorded his second career MLS goal during the 87th minute of a home match against the Philadelphia Union (Aug. 4). Guzman recorded his firth start of the 2018 regular-season during a road contest against Sporting KC (Aug. 18). He made a substitute appearance in the 88th minute during a home contest against the Seattle Sounders (Aug. 26), coming into the match for Lawrence Olum. He returned to the starting lineup during a home contest against Toronto FC (Aug. 29), scoring his second goal of the 2018 regular-season. During a road contest against the New England Revolution (Sept. 1), Guzman recorded his seventh start and recorded his first assist of the 2018 regular-season. He recorded his fourth goal of the 2018 regular-season during a home contest against Columbus Crew SC (Sept. 19). Guzman made five appearances (all starts) during the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. He made one appearance (one start) in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
2017 (Portland): David Guzman made 25 regular-season appearances (24 starts) during in 2017. He made his 2017 MLS regular-season debut and Portland Timbers debut during a home match against Minnesota United FC (March 3). He recorded his second consecutive start and recorded his first MLS career goal along with his first MLS assist during a home match against the Houston Dynamo (March 18). Guzman did not make an appearance against Columbus Crew SC (March 25) after being called up for international duty. He returned to the starting lineup against the New England Revolution (April 2), playing all 90 minutes. Guzman recorded his second consecutive assist during a road contest against FC Dallas (April 29). He started and recorded his sixth career assists during a home contest against the LA Galaxy (Aug. 6). Guzman helped the Timbers recorded back-to-back wins after recording two consecutive starts for Portland.
2009-2016 (Saprissa): Guzman played for Costa Rican First Division club Deportivo Saprissa from 2011-2016, where he helped the club win the Torneo de Invierno three times (2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017), the Torneo de Verano twice (2009-2010, 2013-2014), and the Torneo de Copa de Costa Rica – Costa Rica’s domestic cup – once (2013-2014).
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Has earned 54 caps with the Costa Rica National Team since making his debut for Los Ticos in an international friendly against Switzerland on June 1, 2010. Guzman has represented Costa Rica at the FIFA World Cup (2018) - three straight starts, Copa America (2011), the Gold Cup (2011, 2015, 2017) and the Copa Centroamericana (2011, 2017).
