Higuain shines in 125th MLS regular-season start for Crew SC

NEW YORK – Columbus Crew SC’s Saturday night match against the New York Red Bulls marked a milestone for one of the Black & Gold’s most beloved veteran players.


Midfielder Federico Higuaín, more informally known by the Crew SC faithful as Pipa, started his 125th Major League Soccer regular-season game as a member of the club in the 2-0 loss to New York. Higuaín ranks in the top-10 all-time in terms of games started for the Black & Gold.


The 32-year-old Designated Player from Buenos Aires, Argentina, played the full 90 minutes in the contest and successfully completed 38 passes in the opposition's half, won two take-ons, and made two key passes.


Higuaín has started and played in six games this season, scoring one goal, and assisting on four others. He ranks fifth all-time in goal scoring for the Black & Gold with 40 goals.


The midfielder is also in the top-five in all-time assists for Columbus with 39 assists to date, as well as being fourth in shots and shots on goal with 319 and 114, respectively.
