Orlando City SC 2-1 win at New York City FC
Orlando City SC’s star striker Cyle Larin did it again for the Lions in their 2-1 victory over New York City FC. The 2015 MLS Rookie of the Year netted both goals past NYCFC (30’, 51’) placing his team atop the Eastern Conference. Things got interesting for Orlando in the 74th minute when David Villa struck the back of the net off a set piece. However, New York City couldn’t find an equalizer, leaving Orlando victorious on the road.
Columbus Crew SC 2-0 loss at New York Red Bulls
Things went from bad to worse for the Black & Gold. Seasoned midfielder Artur sustained a wrist injury in the opening minute of play, and minutes later the Red Bulls found the back of the net thanks to Alex Muyl (11’). Starting defender Alex Crognale was then subbed out after a tackle against Bradley Wright-Phillips left him injured. Daniel Royer then placed his penalty kick in the back of the net shortly after, giving the Red Bulls their 2-0 win. This week’s match marked the 18th game unbeaten at home for the Red Bulls.
Atlanta United FC 3-1 win at Real Salt Lake
Atlanta United secured their first victory against Real Salt Lake after back-to-back multi-goal wins in March. Thanks to defensive giveaways, United was able to find the back of the net twice by Hector Villalba (9’) and Yamil Asad (46’). RSL attempted a comeback in the 69th minute thanks to a goal by Albert Rusnak, but Atlanta's 18-year-old Brandon Vazquez made sure to secure his team’s victory after scoring in stoppage time during his MLS debut.
Chicago Fire 3-1 loss at Toronto FC
Toronto FC overcame the Chicago Fire 3-1, making it the Fire’s first loss since the addition of Bastian Schweinsteiger. Toronto found the back of the net three times before an 88th minute consolation goal by David Accam. With the help of Sebastian Giovinco’s brace (28’, 82’) and Eriq Zavaleta’s header (32’), the Red’s secured their three points at home.
New England Revolution 2-2 draw vs. D.C. United
Despite a 2-2 draw, D.C. United did find the back of the net three times in last week’s match, unfortunately one of those goals went to New England. The Revs’ Lee Nguyen scored five minutes into the first half, but their goal was answered for in the 26th minute by Jared Jeffrey and then two minutes later by Sebastien Le Toux. If it weren’t for an own goal by United’s Sean Franklin in the 48th minute, the match would have seen a victor.
Montreal Impact 3-3 draw at Philadelphia Union
The Philadelphia Union blew a 3-0 lead against Montreal Impact last week. The Union have still yet to win a match in the 2017 MLS regular season. Philadelphia’s Roland Alberg (5’, 39’) and C.J. Sapong (23’) both found the back of the net in the first half before the Impact took them by storm. Ignacio Piatti restored hope for his team after slicing through Philadelphia’s defense to slot one home, just before halftime. Montreal thwarted any chance the Union had at walking away with a win with a brace by Anthony Jackson-Hamel (69’, 87’) to tie the match up.
