Columbus Crew SC and United States Men’s National Team midfielder Wil Trapp earned his team-leading seventh appearance of 2018 for the Stars & Stripes, as the U.S. drew Peru 1-1 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Trapp, who played the full 90 minutes in a central holding role, garnered Man of the Match honors for the second time in his last six appearances. The 25-year-old has started for and captained the MNT in each of his seven appearances this year, bringing his career cap total to nine.
Following a 49th-minute goal from 18-year-old Werder Bremen forward Josh Sargent, the MNT moved to 3-2-2 all-time against 21st-ranked Peru, according to FIFA’s World Ranking. The U.S. currently ranks one spot back in 22nd.
Overall, the U.S. holds a 3-3-3 record in matches featuring Trapp, while maintaining a 2-2-3 record when Trapp starts.
Up next, the U.S. is scheduled to face England on Nov. 15 at Wembley Stadium in London, England, before traveling to Luminus Arena in Genk, Belgium to play four-time World Cup champions Italy on Nov. 20.
Trapp returns home to join the Black & Gold as Columbus looks to secure a spot in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs on the road against Orlando City SC on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. ET.
