Wil Trapp, Gyasi Zardes, and Zack Steffen helped push the United States Men’s National Team to a 4-0 victory against Guyana in the Gold Cup on Tuesday, June 18 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The Stars & Stripes first scored in the 28th minute when Paul Arriola struck a pass from Weston Mckennie to the far post.
Tyler Boyd doubled the lead for the United States when he drove the ball into the bottom left corner after he received a pass from Michael Bradley. This marked the 1000th goal in program history for the Men’s National Team.
In his 46th cap, Zardes got in on goal scoring action in the 55th minute when the ball ricocheted off of his head and past goalkeeper Akel Clark. This marks his eighth goal with the MNT.
Trapp came on as a sub for Bradley in 62nd the minute. In the 81st minute, he slipped a pass to Arriola who then set up Boyd for his brace.
Defensively, the MNT did not see much action, as Guyana only had for shots tallied for the evening. Steffen was required to make one diving save in the 69th minute to help the team earn the shutout.
With this win, the Stars & Stripes sit at the top of Group D with three points and a plus-four goal differential.
Up next, the MNT take on Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, June 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. Supporters can watch the match on FS1 or UniMas.
