20-year-old Crew winger and Costa Rican international Luis Diazmade his senior national team debut on Friday evening after coming on as a second-half sub in Los Ticos' 2-1 loss to fifth-ranked Uruguay in a friendly at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.
The recent Crew acquisition came on for teammate and Club León winger Joel Campbell of Liga MX. Domestically, Diaz has made five starts for the Crew while recording three assists and one goal.
Meanwhile, Wil Trapp and Gyasi Zardes each earned the start for the U.S. Men's National Team in a 3-0 loss to Mexico on Friday, with Trapp upping his cap total to 20 and Zardes increasing his respective total to 52, which stood as the most of any Starting XI MNT player by 20 appearances (Christian Pulisic - 32).
Notably, Friday's USMNT Starting XI had an average age of 24 years, 150 days – the youngest lineup to start a game in 2019. The Starting XI also averaged 19 caps.
While Costa Rica's international break schedule is over, the USMNT resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 10 against Uruguay from Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo., with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. ET on FS1, Univision, and TUDN.
