On the heels of two consecutive loses on the road, Week 21 of Major League Soccer saw a home advantage for Columbus Crew SC as it hosted Orlando City SC on Saturday night. The Black & Gold leveled the scoring twice throughout the match and found a breakthrough in second half stoppage time as captain Wil Trapp shot a game-winning rocket 35 yards to the back of the net.
Trapp’s performance against Orlando earned him MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week honors. This is Trapp’s first TOTW recognition this season. The goal against Orlando was the Gahanna native’s first-ever home goal. It is also the homegrown player’s first goal of this season and second goal of his MLS career. The last goal Trapp scored for Crew SC dates back to 2014 when Columbus traveled to face the Houston Dynamo in an eventual 2-2 draw.
Trapp finished Saturday’s match with 85 touches, 74 passes, three tackles, one goal from outside the box and Acura Man of the Match honors.
Trapp's game-winner is also nominated for MLS AT&T Goal of the Week. Click here to vote.
Next up, the Black & Gold head east to face the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, July 28 at 7 p.m. ET before returning home to host the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
