Top 2021 Moments | Lower.com Field Inaugural Match

A day Columbus will never forget.

20,407 packed Lower.com Field in the debut of the Crew's new soccer palace this summer that saw the Black & Gold rally to earn a 2-2 draw with 2021 Supporters’ Shield winner, New England Revolution.

For the first time since groundbreaking at Astor Park in 2019, supporters came together downtown to celebrate the new era of Crew soccer in the heart of Columbus. The result was an absolutely electric atmosphere.

The Crew trailed New England 2-0 early, but a left-footed shot from Gyasi Zardes at the top of the box etched his name further into Crew history, scoring the club’s first goal at Lower.com Field and cutting the home team’s deficit in half.

Then, as so many times throughout the Crew’s history: "the soccer gods were with Columbus,” in the words of the great Frankie Hejduk.

Columbus was the first in Major League Soccer to open a soccer-specific stadium, and it became the first to open a second.

July 3, 2021 will forever be a milestone day for the Crew and the city of Columbus.
