“No puedo evitar enamorarme del Crew” is a phrase all Black & Gold supporters know well. It translates to “I can’t help falling in love with Crew,” a lyric from the supporter song “Wise Men” which is sung throughout Lower.com Field before and after every home match.
The phrase has become a rallying cry for our most fervent supporters and casual fans alike and serves as a reminder of the togetherness that makes Columbus and its Crew massive.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Club, alongside the Columbus Fashion Alliance, celebrate our vibrant Hispanic community and how diversity and inclusion have played integral parts in propelling the city and the Club forward with this piece.
The shirt was designed by Ibeliz Guadalupe, a Columbus creative who grew up surrounded by the vibrant and inspiring richness of St. Croix of the U.S. Virgin Islands. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with a minor in Art Therapy from the Columbus College of Art & Design. Soon after graduating, Guadalupe lived in New York City before returning to Columbus in 2015.
Guadalupe’s body of work is inspired by the shapes and colors that exist in nature along with our connection to everyday life. She currently resides in Columbus, Ohio where her love of fine art, fashion design and yoga alchemize to create more beauty in the world.
The front of the shirt features the Black & Gold’s “C96” with a Ginger Thomas intertwined around the logo. The back of the shirt prominently displays the text “No puedo evitar enamorarme del Crew” surrounded by the same flower, which is a vibrant yellow sub-tropical plant found in Central and South America and Caribbean. This is the official flower of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Common names for it include Yellow Bell, Yellow Elder and Esperanza, which means ‘hope’ in Spanish.
The “No puedo evitar enamorarme del Crew” tee is modeled by Crew players Cucho Hernández, Jimmy Medranda, Christian Ramirez, Diego Rossi and Gustavo Vallecilla, as well as designer Ibeliz Guadalupe.
Cucho and Medranda both hail from Colombia, and Ramirez, Rossi and Vallecilla are from the United States, Uruguay and Venezuela, respectively.
A limited run of 100 tees will be available at The Crew Shop on September 20. The Crew Shop is located at Lower.com Field next to the AEP Gate.
