Sunday evening's Columbus Crew SC, 1-0, victory over Orlando City SC solidified the Black & Gold's playoff position — assuring that the Club cannot finish lower than fifth in the East. The cleansheet was Columbus' ninth in the 2017 MLS regular season, and although it doesn't show in the match's traditional boxscore, captain and defensive midfielder Wil Trappnavigated and dominated the center of the pitch.
For his performance in Week 33, Trapp earned a MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week recognition. He was named to the Bench.
Trapp, a Gahanna-native and Crew SC Academy product, completed 107 successful passes against Orlando City while also stepping in for three tackles won, three interceptions and four clearances. The Club's youngest-ever captain featured for the full 90 minutes at Orlando City Stadium.
Week 33 is his third Team of the Week honor.
While Crew SC officially clinched a spot in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs on Sept. 30 with a win over D.C. United, Eastern Conference seeding is in full focus.
After Sunday's win, Crew SC cannot finish lower than fifth in the East, while a win at NYCFC along with an Atlanta loss or tie to Toronto FC and a Chicago loss or tie to the Houston Dynamo could see Columbus finish as high as second place with a Decision Day, presented by AT&T, win.
The Black & Gold return to the postseason for the third time in four seasons under Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter.
Decision Day kicks off from Citi Field on Oct. 22 as Crew SC visits New York City FC in the regular-season finale at 4 p.m.
