Columbus Crew SC today announced that midfielder Tony Tchani has received an international call-up from the Cameroon National Team. Tchani is slated to join the Indomitable Lions ahead of two qualification matches in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
As part of Group M play in qualification for the tournament, Cameroon hosts South Africa in Limbe on March 26 before traveling to Durban for the rematch on March 29. The Indomitable Lions are currently atop the group with a 2-0-0 record.
Tchani was previously called-up by Cameroon last year but was unable to join the side due to injury. He made his first international appearance on January 31 after accepting a call-up by the United States for the Stars & Stripes' annual January camp this year. Eligible for a one-time switch as Tchani's appearance on January 31 was in a friendly match, Tchani is not cap tied by either Cameroon or the United States at this point in his career.
Of the 26 players currently on the Black & Gold active roster, 14 have received a senior National Team call-up throughout their careers (Harrison Afful, Corey Ashe, Conor Casey, Ethan Finlay,Waylon Francis, Kei Kamara, Ola Kamara, Emil Larsen, Cedrick Mabwati, Justin Meram, Michael Parkhurst, Rodrigo Saravia, Tchani, Wil Trapp).
The Black & Gold continue the 2016 Major League Soccer campaign by playing their second of three consecutive road regular-season contests on Saturday, April 2 at FC Dallas (9:00 p.m. ET / The CW Columbus, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, CD102.5 FM, La Mega 103.1 FM, English radio stream on ColumbusCrewSC.com).
