SPORTING DIRECTOR AND HEAD COACH GREGG BERHALTER
On the difficult start:
It puts us in a difficult position, going two-nothing down that early in the game. Credit to Montreal for coming out to a great start. From us it wasn’t good and it wasn’t an acceptable performance. We’re clearly not happy with that performance.
On his team’s attacking display:
I think there were some decent moves, but overall it wasn’t fluid enough. It’s not who we are attacking-wise. Everything is a lot more precise and accurate, and changing tempo. Today we did not have that.
On the effort in the second half:
In the second half, I thought the effort was improved. We had a couple chances and unfortunately, they didn’t go in. By and large, it wasn’t our night tonight. Things that would normally go in just weren’t falling for us.
MIDFIELDER ETHAN FINLAY
On taking two early goals:
We shot ourselves in the foot. With the first one five minutes in, we just could not recover from it. The second one was a great strike and we struggled to overcome it.
On having difficulty getting clear chances:
They played pretty compact. After the two goals, they really started sitting in. We weren’t able to break them down tonight—something we know we can do and we take pride in. It didn’t happen for us tonight.
MIDFIELDER JUSTIN MERAM
On conceding early goals:
This is a trend we’re having and not the right trend we want. We come in with the right mentality and then we give up an early one. Whenever you do that against a good team like Montreal, it’s going to be tough to climb back on the road.
On unbalancing the Impact back line:
We just have to move the ball a little bit quicker. We had the chances, with one off the crossbar and with Bush making two great saves. If we got a bit lucky and started off the game right, it could have been a different result.
