Parkhurst set to face FC Bayern tonight

Parkhurst All-Star

Michael Parkhurst is set to become the first Crew player to appear on the roster for the MLS All-Star Game since 2010 when the League's best take on FC Bayern Munich tonight at Providence Park.

The Crew captain, who spoke highly about the honor of the nomination, was also named an MLS All-Star in 2005 and 2007 against Fulham FC and Celtic FC, respectively.

At the time of his selection, Parkhurst's passing numbers were among the highest in MLS by a defender, and they continue to remain there. The Rhode Island native currently trails only Colorado's Drew Moor in successful passes and total passes attempted. He also ranks fourth in passing accuracy among defenders with at least 10 matches played, as well as seventh in touches by a defender.

Parkhurst is expected to be opposed by the entirety of the FC Bayern squad, including the German contingent that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Those players are set to re-join their club team for the first time during preseason for the match.

The contest kicks-off at 9:30 p.m. ET and can be viewed on ESPN2 or UniMas in the United States.
