Justin Meram started and earned his first international cap in doing so, but his Iraq side fell 1-0 to Kuwait in its first match of the 2014 Gulf Cup of Nations.
Meram had several positive attempts at goal throughout the match, including a notable rip just before halftime that was cleared off the line by a Kuwait defender:
Just before the final whistle, Fahad Alenezi scored on a curling effort to give Kuwait the 1-0 victory.
Iraq next plays Oman in the Group Stage. The match is set to kick-off on November 17.
