CREW SC LOOKING TO CLAIM BACK-TO-BACK HOME WINS
Columbus Crew SC plays its 18th 2015 Major League Soccer regular-season match and its 10th at home by hosting the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, July 4 at MAPFRE Stadium. This is the second of three matches between Columbus and New York this year and the 62nd regular-season meeting overall. Historically, this matchup is very close, as Crew SC has a 25-27-9 record all-time against the Red Bulls, including a 15-12-4 mark in matches played in Columbus.
LAST REGULAR SEASON MEETING
On March 28, 2015, Crew SC fell to the New York Red Bulls, 2-1, at MAPFRE Stadium. Bradley Wright-Phillips opened the scoring in the 49th minute on a converted penalty kick. Crew SC’s Tony Tchani evened the scoreline in the 58th minute as the Cameroonian midfielder recorded his first goal of the season. New York scored the  game-winning goal in the 67th minute as Mike Grella chipped a ball past Steve Clark to give New York its second win of the 2015 Major League Soccer regular season.
TRAPP RETURNS TO THE FIELD
On Tuesday, during Crew SC’s 2-0 defeat to Orlando City SC in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, midfielder Wil Trapp replaced Tony Tchani in the 74th minute. The appearance was Trapp’s first in nearly three months, having last played on April 8 against Vancouver.
PARKHURST, WAHL ON THE VERGE OF 50 FOR COLUMBUS
Both Michael Parkhurst and Tyson Wahl have made 49 regular-season appearances for the Black & Gold. Each player’s next appearance would mark 50 for Columbus.
FRANCIS LEADS LEAGUE IN ASSISTS AMONG DEFENDERS
Crew SC defender Waylon Francis registered an assist on Kei Kamara’s second goal against New England on June 24, giving him five helpers on the season. That total gives the Costa Rican the League lead in assists by a defender, one ahead of Sporting Kansas City’s Jalil Anibaba and D.C. United’s Taylor Kemp. Francis is also one of 16 defenders in MLS to have created at least 11 chances.
