Crew SC has signed Norwegian international Ola Kamara. The 26-year-old striker is an energetic goal-scorer, who’s good with his feet and calls himself a “foodie.” Get to know a little more about the Black & Gold’s newest addition with these five fun facts.
1. Kamara has experience in the Champions and Europa leagues
After joining FK Austria Wien in 2014, Kamara went on loan with Tippeligaen side Molde FK in his native Norway the following year. Kamara scored 14 goals and delivered six assists in 29 appearances for the club. He added another two goals and assists in four Norwegian Cup matches. The scoring didn’t stop there for the striker as he hit the back of the net four times in four UEFA Champions League qualification matches, including a brace. To top it all off, Kamara scored a goal in six Europa League appearances with Molde. In summary, he likes to score.
2. Kamara's not the only player with history at 1860 Munich
In 2013, Kamara went on loan from SV Ried in the Austrian Bundesliga to TSV 1860 München Germany’s Bundesliga 2. That’s the same club Crew SC Sporting Director & Head Coach Gregg Berhalter called his home for two-and-a-half years beginning in 2006. Kamara tallied two assists in his 10 appearances for the Lions.
3. He likes winning gold
Following the 2013 season in Germany, Kamara rejoined Norway’s Strømsgodset Toppfootball on loan after previously having spent four seasons with the club. His fifth and final year with Strømsgodset turned out to have the best ending. Kamara scored 12 goals in 14 league appearances, including two hat tricks. He ended the season the best way possible having been crowned Tippeligaen champion with his team. Kamara states “winning gold” that year is his favorite soccer memory.
4. This foodie is going to need a restaurant tour of Columbus
To score all those goals, Kamara needs his fuel. Calling himself a "foodie," he likes a wide variety of delectable nourishment. He mentions Mexican, Italian and barbeque among his favorites, just to name a few. With so many choices in the Capital City, it sounds like someone's going to have to show Kamara the best spots for grub!
5. Kamara has even more reasons to be excited
Ola’s going to be a dad! He and his girlfriend of five years, Sandra, are expecting a baby boy in the next few days. The due date’s February 6 and they’re ecstatic. A lot of exciting life events are happening for Kamara at once. Congrats!
