D.C. United kept the score even through 80 minutes, but the constant pressure of New York City’s offense eventually led to United conceding two goals within the last 10 minutes at Yankee Stadium. D.C.’s only goal of the night came after Chris Wolfe set up an easy lay-off for Alvaro Saborio, who recorded his fifth goal of the season and second for United.
2. New York Red Bulls – 39 pts. | 3-0 win vs. Toronto FC; this week: BYE
The Red Bulls extended their unbeaten run to six games thanks to goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips, Anthony Wallace and Gonzalo Veron, while shutting out a high-powered Toronto offense. With the clean sheet, Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles now holds the club record for shutouts with 26.
3. Columbus Crew SC – 34 pts. | BYE; this week: vs. New York City FC, vs. Sporting Kansas City
The Black & Gold are coming off a bye week and look to continue their solid form as they get set to host New York City FC and Sporting Kansas City this week at MAPFRE Stadium. Crew SC most recently celebrated a come-from-behind victory against the Colorado Rapids thanks to a two-goal performance from League-leading goal scorer Kei Kamara, who recorded his 16th and 17th goals of the season.
4. New England Revolution – 34 pts. | 2-0 win vs. Houston Dynamo; this week: BYE
After a weather delay of nearly three hours, the New England Revolution defeated the Dynamo thanks to second-half goals from Jose Goncalves and Juan Agudelo. New England’s Jermaine Jones made his first start for the Revolution since coming back from surgery.
5. Toronto FC – 31 pts. | 3-0 loss at New York Red Bulls; this week: vs. Orlando City SC
Toronto FC was held scoreless for the sixth time this season after getting shutout at Red Bull Arena on Saturday. Toronto’s offensive effort couldn’t get off the ground, recording only three shots on goal while maintaining possession less than 40 percent of the time.
6. Montreal Impact – 28 pts. | 2-2 draw vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC; this week: at Sporting Kansas City
The quest for the Voyageurs Cup is still on a level ground as Montreal tied Vancouver 2-2 in the first leg of the Canadian Championship. Montreal came back from a two-goal deficit after scoring twice in two minutes. Marco Donadel and Anthony Jackson-Hamel found the back of the net in the 84th and 85th minute.
7. Orlando City SC – 28 pts. | 4-0 loss at Seattle; this week: vs. Olimpia (CCL), at Real Salt Lake
Orlando City SC fell ill to Oba-fever, as Nigerian international Obafemi Martins provided a much-needed jumpstart to Seattle’s offense, scoring twice at CenturyLink Field on Sunday. Orlando was outshot 21-5 on the day, unable to find any shots on goal while retaining possession 44.9 percent of the time.
8. New York City FC – 27 pts. | 3-1 win vs. D.C. United; this week: at Columbus Crew SC, at LA Galaxy
David Villa, Kwadwo Poku and Tommy McNamara scored as NYCFC claimed a big home victory against the Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United. Andrea Pirlo made a strong showing on the day, providing a lofting through-ball for David Villa who cemented the game-winner, helping NYCFC come out with three much-needed points as it looks to maintain its presence in the playoff hunt.
9. Philadelphia Union – 24 pts. | 1-0 win vs. Chicago (Open Cup), 3-3 draw vs. Chicago; this week: at Montreal Impact
Four days after meeting in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal, Philly and Chicago met again, this time in a more offensive affair, including two goals scored after the 89th minute. Sebastian Le Toux put the Union up 3-2 in the 90th minute, only to see the lead and two points disappear a minute later. The Union dished out 20 shots – 11 of them on target – while connecting on 10 of their 25 crosses on the night.
10. Chicago Fire – 23 pts. | 1-0 loss at Philadelphia Union (Open Cup), 3-3 draw at Chicago; this week: vs. Colorado Rapids
After getting shutout in Open Cup play, the Fire turned it on at home against the Philadelphia Union. Chicago came away with the draw thanks to the heroics of striker Kennedy Igboananike and goalkeeper Sean Johnson. After Igboananike scored the equalizer in stoppage time, Chicago would bend but not break thanks to acrobatic saves from Johnson, who made eight total on the night.
