Eastern Conference Roundup: June 8

ECF roundup - Toronto FC D.C United

D.C. United– 28 pts. | 3-1 win vs. Chicago Fire, 2-1 loss vs. Toronto FC, this week: at Orlando City SC

After extending its unbeaten streak at home to 20 games across all competitions with a victory over Chicago, D.C. United couldn’t maintain the streak, nor an early lead as Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco's brace helped send D.C. to a loss.

New England Revolution – 21 pts. | 2-0 loss at Portland Timbers FC, this week: vs. Chicago Fire

The Revolution fell to the red-hot Portland Timbers, who have extended their win streak to three games after a slow start to the season. Meanwhile, New England, which played without an injured Jermaine Jones and U.S. International Juan Agudelo, extended its winless streak to six games.

Toronto FC – 19 pts. | 2-1 win at D.C. United, this week: OFF

Sebastian Giovinco's brace elevated his goal total to seven of 28 shots on goal this season. Toronto, which has won four of its last six matches, extends its unbeaten streak to two games after this weekend’s victory over D.C. United.

Orlando City SC – 17 pts. | 3-2 win at Chicago Fire, this week: vs. D.C. United

Orlando City SC pulled off the late-match comeback, scoring two goals in the final ten minutes to steal a win at Toyota Park, a difficult place for road teams to prosper. Orlando City dominated in possession (63.1%) and overall passing accuracy (85%) to provide the opportunities it needed late to complete the comeback.

New York Red Bulls – 17 pts. | 4-2 loss at Houston Dynamo, this week: OFF

Friday's loss pushed New York's winless streak to four matches, dating back to May 10. This comes after the fifth-place Red Bulls began the season in prime form without suffering a loss through their first seven matches (3-0-4).

Columbus Crew SC – 16 pts. | 3-0 loss at Philadelphia Union, 2-1 loss vs. Montreal Impact, this week: vs. L.A. Galaxy

After a mid-week loss to Philadelphia, a stoppage-time goal from Federico Higuaín proved too little, too late as Columbus Crew SC fell to the Montreal Impact 2-1 on Saturday. Possession (57.2%) and passing accuracy (84%) favored the Black & Gold, but it was Montreal’s countering opportunities that led the Impact to win.

Philadelphia Union – 15 pts. | 3-0 win vs. Columbus Crew SC, 2-1 loss vs. NYC FC, this week: OFF

After a 3-0 victory against Columbus Crew SC, the Union couldn’t maintain the same offensive presence, losing 2-1 to a visiting New York City FC club. C.J. Sapong scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year for the Union, who looked poised to continue their winning ways, having won three out of their last four coming into the NYCFC match.

Montreal Impact – 14 pts. | 2-1 win vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-1 win at Columbus Crew SC, this week: at NYC FC

Confidence from a 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC carried on for Montreal, as second-half goals against Crew SC from Maxim Tissot and Andrés Romero helped the Montreal Impact end their 25-game MLS road winless streak-- a drought that extends back to the end of the 2013 season.

Chicago Fire – 14 pts. | 3-1 loss at D.C. United, 3-2 loss vs. Orlando City SC, this week: at New England Revolution

After a midweek loss at RFK Stadium, David Accam's go-ahead second-half strike appeared to send Chicago on its way to three points against New England. But, a mixture of late-game pressure and two own-goals spelled doom for Chicago as Orlando City completed the 3-2 comeback.

NYC FC – 11 pts. | 1-1 vs. Houston Dynamo, this week: at Philadelphia Union

The 11-match winless drought is over for NYC FC. This weekend’s win also marked New York City’s first-ever road victory in club history.
