Although Sporting's 4-1 defeat of Toronto FC definitely qualifies as a statement win, the defending MLS Cup champions can make an even bigger statement with a similar performance against D.C. United this weekend.
2. D.C. United — 40 pts. | 4-2 win vs. Colorado Rapids; Week 24: at Sporting Kansas City
D.C. United joined Sporting Kansas City and the Crew in racking up four goals last weekend. The Black-and-Red continue to be right there with Sporting in terms of a clear separation atop the Eastern Conference standings.
3. Toronto FC — 32 pts. | 4-1 loss at Sporting Kansas City; Week 24: vs. Chicago Fire
The Reds wrapped up a four-match road swing with a disappointing loss at Sporting Kansas City. Toronto FC still has games in hand, but the gap between them and teams four-through-nine is shrinking.
4. Columbus Crew — 30 pts. | 4-1 win vs. LA Galaxy; Week 24: vs. Houston Dynamo
The weekend couldn't have gone any better for the Black & Gold, which closes the regular season campaign with nine of 10 matches against teams currently outside of MLS Cup Playoffs position.
5. New York Red Bulls — 28 pts. | Bye; Week 24: vs. Montreal Impact
The Red Bulls were idle as the Crew jumped over them in the Conference standings, but New York still has the League's leading goalscorer (Bradley Wright Phillips) and assist-getter (Thierry Henry).
6. New England Revolution — 27 pts. | 1-1 draw vs. Portland Timbers FC; Week 24: vs. Chivas USA
All things considered, a draw with an improving Portland side was probably a good result for New England.
7. Philadelphia Union — 27 pts. | 2-0 loss at Houston Dynamo: Week 24: vs. San Jose Earthquakes
It didn't go well in the League for Philadelphia last weekend, but it went tremendously in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in midweek action. The Union defeated FC Dallas on penalties to advance to the Final, which will be played at PPL Park against Seattle – the first-ever opponent the stadium hosted back in 2010.
8. Houston Dynamo — 25 pts. | 2-0 win vs. Philadelphia Union; Week 24: at Columbus Crew
It's been two wins in three matches for Houston since the debuts of DaMarcus Beasley and Luis Garrido in orange.
9. Chicago Fire — 25 pts. | 1-0 loss at Montreal Impact; Week 24: at Toronto FC
It was a rough week for Chicago, which lost 6-0 away to Seattle in a 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal and then fell to lowly Montreal in League play.
10. Montreal Impact —17 pts. | 1-0 win vs. Chicago Fire; Week 24: at New York Red Bulls
Montreal snapped its seven-match losing streak thanks in part to the debut of Designated Player Ignacio Piatti.
