COLUMBUS — The Crew Soccer Foundation, the charitable arm of the Columbus Crew, partners for the ninth consecutive year with the Greater Linden Development Corporation to sponsor a Student-Athlete Scholarship for an outstanding senior at the Linden McKinley STEM Academy.
The award helps off-set college costs for a student-athlete that demonstrates outstanding leadership, scholarship and community service. It is presented annually at the Greater Linden Development Corporation’s Awards and Gratitude Celebration which this year will take place on November 15.
The ceremony annually highlights the exceptional achievements of Linden community members, recognizing individuals or organizations in a number of categories, including Small Business of the Year, Teacher of the Year and Youth Volunteer Award as well as Student-Athlete of the Year.
Last year, Linden McKinley STEM Academy senior Felando Hayes was presented with the Award and Scholarship. At the time, Hayes was a three-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball and baseball, who carried a 3.0 GPA. A two-time captain of the basketball team, he was also actively involved in other school extra-curricular activities. He participated in Closing the Achievement Gap, Ambassadors Club, Otterbein’s Ubuntu Mentoring Program and Students Against Violence Everywhere, with plans to also participate in the Linden Big Brother/Big Sister Mentorship program.
