Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has waived defender Amro Tarek. The native of Egypt was originally acquired on loan by the Black & Gold on February 3.
“After assessing the first two months of the season, we felt that our strong, veteran defensive depth would continue to make it difficult to provide Amro regular First Team minutes and so we wanted to make this move early enough in the year to allow Amro a chance to secure more playing time elsewhere,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. “We would like to thank Amro for his time in Columbus and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Tarek made one appearance for Crew SC, helping to close-out a 3-2 victory over New York City FC with a second-half substitution on April 16. The defender was acquired on loan from Spain's Real Betis during the 2016 Major League Soccer preseason.
Crew SC takes on the Montreal Impact at MAPFRE Stadium this Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET (The CW Columbus, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, BCSN2, CD102.5 FM, La Mega 103.1 FM, English radio stream on ColumbusCrewSC.com).
