MAPFRE Stadium is the place to be on Saturday, September 26, as Columbus Crew SC anticipates one of its biggest nights this season. The club is expanding capacity, adding nearly 2,000 additional seats for supporters to experience Crew SC’s matchup with the Portland Timbers.
Almost 1,500 bleacher seats will be added to the stage, as well as around 400 bleacher seats to the South Bridge. Crew SC expanded capacity earlier this year for the Galaxy match on June 13. That was one of four sellout crowds MAPFRE Stadium has held this year, including two most recently, with back-to-back sellouts against Sporting Kansas City (August 22) and FC Dallas (September 6).
As Crew SC makes a push for a berth in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, the club scheduled to host eight club legends at the Portland match just 12 days from now. Crew SC is implementing additional seating to extend this opportunity to as many people as possible. Mike Clark, Brad Friedel, Frankie Hejduk, Stern John, Brian McBride, Alejandro Moreno, Duncan Oughton and Gino Padula are among the most influential and recognizable figures in club history.
The legends are also scheduled to participate in the final reveal of the "Top Twenty Moments in Black & Gold" content series at halftime. Supporters still have until Wednesday, September 16 to vote for his/ her top moments.
With postseason play just around the corner and Crew SC inching closer to contention, each match becomes more significant. Columbus has been recognized for its success at home this season, notching an 8-3-4 record and scoring 32 goals, good for the most in the East. The Black & Gold only have two matches remaining at MAPFRE Stadium.
