COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew 2 today announced that it has signed defender Daniel Strachan to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract pending league and federation approval. Contract terms were not disclosed.
A native of Lakewood, Ohio, Strachan most recently played for the University of Akron from 2017-2021, making 92 appearances, scoring three goals and providing six assists. A team captain, the defender helped the Akron Zips win two MAC Tournaments (2017, 2018) and reach one College Cup Final (2018). At the individual level, Strachan earned several honors during his time at Akron, including being named to the USC NCAA Division I Men’s North Region Third Team (2021) and the Second Team All-MAC (2019, 2020, 2021).
In addition to his collegiate experience, Strachan played for amateur side Tormenta FC 2 of USL League Two in 2019 and 2021. The defender is a product of the Cleveland Internationals Academy, where he played from 2006-2017.
