Columbus Crew open third sensory room at Lower.com Field

COLUMBUS–The Columbus Crew announced today the opening of a third sensory inclusive room at Lower.com Field, expanding their in-game accessibility efforts by providing additional space and equipment for guests with sensory issues. The Black & Gold have partnered with JPMorganChase to bring these environments to Crew fans and support a welcoming space for all at Lower.com Field.

Guests now have access to the new “Chase Sensory Suite” on the east side of the stadium, with two existing rooms on the west side. Each space contains elements designed for adults and children who are impacted by bright lights, loud noises and large crowds. The sensory rooms include tactile walls designed by artists with Autism, controllable light levels, bean bag chairs and padded seating, all in a smell-free environment. Additionally, bubble and air walls provide calming sounds along with headphones for noise cancellation.

“The addition of a third sensory room makes Lower.com Field an even more inclusive venue and allows families to fully enjoy matchdays knowing they have a dedicated, comforting space within the stadium,” said Columbus Crew Investor-Operator Dr. Pete Edwards. “Soccer is for all, and by increasing access to various accommodations throughout the building, we continue to address any potential barriers for attendance so everyone can experience Crew matches and create lasting memories around our sport.”

The sensory rooms provide a calm and peaceful space for overstimulated guests to take a break from the lively environment to be able to rejoin the event within 10-15 minutes of use. The rooms are designed for individuals, a group or family to fit comfortably and are sanitized between each party’s use for a worry-free enjoyment.

“Supporting this space is entirely consistent with our culture at JPMorganChase,” said Becky Griffin, Columbus Location Leader for JPMorganChase. “Our firm has been recognized nationally as a best place to work for disability inclusion. We are committed to making Chase available to all and are proud to support the Crew in their efforts to create a more accessible environment.”

In addition to the sensory rooms, sensory inclusive bags and devices are also available to any guest or staff member to check out from the Guest Services Center on the main concourse and at gates and premium areas throughout the stadium. Each bag includes noise cancelling headphones, fidget devices, communication cards and other elements that may assist with overstimulation and senses of guests.

Since 2021, the Columbus Crew has collaborated with KultureCity to earn a yearly Inclusive Certification for Lower.com Field and Historic Crew Stadium. As part of the certification, all Guest Experience staff complete an annual training that prepares them to recognize and assist guests with visible and invisible disabilities, continuing Lower.com Field’s accessibility efforts.
