COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew have acquired Colombian Midfielder Marino Hinestroza via transfer from Club de Fútbol Pachuca of Mexico’s Liga MX. A U22 Initiative player who will fill an international roster slot, Hinestroza is under contract through 2026 with an option for 2027. He will officially be added to the Crew roster when the MLS transfer window opens on January 31, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.
“Marino performed at a high level for Pachuca this past year, and we are excited to help further advance this young player’s development within our Club,” said Columbus Crew President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “He is a talented individual who can fit various roles within our style of play, including adding a one-v-one threat to our attack.”
Hinestroza joined C.F. Pachuca for the 2022-23 campaign, featuring in 46 matches with two goals and four assists. He played a pivotal role in the club winning Liga MX’s Apertura title in 2022.
The Cali, Colombia native made his professional debut with Orsomarso of Colombia’s Torneo DIMAYOR II league during the 2018-19 season. Hinestroza signed with CD America U-20 in Colombia’s Categoría Primera A at the start of the 2019-20 season, and in January 2020, he was loaned to Brazilian side Palmeiras U20 in the CBF Brasileiro U20 league. After his loan expired, Hinestroza returned to CD America, where he appeared in one match with the club during the 2022-23 season.
TRANSACTION: Columbus Crew acquire Midfielder Marino Hinestroza as a U22 Initiative player via transfer from C.F. Pachuca for an undisclosed transfer fee on Dec. 22, 2023. Hinestroza is under contract through 2026 with an option for 2027.
